Melissa Bowker intends on sparking some nostalgic magic back into our audience, in her FlipFest event; Roald Dahl’s Tea party! The characters of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novels will be sharing stories of their own with you, and with each other, at the cosy and colourful Rex Café on Friday 20th March at 11:30am.
The characters have been working amongst each other through improvisation, to adapt different stories relating to them, and also using books, toys and games that we all once loved as a child, to prompt new stories!
Roald Dahl famously quoted: “Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” Melissa’s idea behind the piece, is to bring magic back into us as adults, and rekindle fond old memories from when we were younger and care-free.
Melissa says: “If you bring people back into the mind set of when they were a child, it opens up their imagination again. We’re going to display different 80’s and 90’s toys, games and images around Rex Café, triggering memories and conversations from characters and audience.” Melissa aims to bring the audience back to a more magical time and place, and forget any life stresses with the help of Roald Dahl! What better way is there to feel at home than with everyone’s childhood favourite!
Characters on the day include: The Twits: Mr Twit (Kitty Lee Cooper) Mrs Twit (Beth Marshall) The BFG: BFG (Matt Tyler) Sophie (Lizzie Hawthornthwaite) The Witches: Grand High Witch (Carl Fowler) Extra witch (Johnny Maddox) Matilda: Matilda (Alice Phillips) Miss Trunchbull (Caitlin O’Neill) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Charlie; (Siofra Mckeown-Carter) Willy Wonka (Jacob Hart) Veruca Salt (Jade Thomson) Viola (Hannah Plant)
Audience are welcomed to have a cup of tea with the BFG, enjoy a Wonka bar with Willy Wonka, or share a chocolate cake with Miss Trunchbull! Come along and be enchanted by the wonderful array of Roald Dahl characters, listen and share your own stories with our favourite classics!
