Fruit Salad in a Glass Lampshade, written by our very own Kitty Cooper, is the story of Bernie and his wife Eileen and their attempt to come to terms with Bernie's Alzheimers disease. Through visits from some rather eccentric characters and a couple of Bernie's hallucinations, we see his condition slowly deteriorate and the affect it has on both him and his loved ones.
Throughout the process, Kitty and Caitlín, (director of the piece) have been working alongside the Alzheimer's Society, an organisation who help to provide support for thousands of people across England, Wales and Northern Ireland who are/have been affected by Alzheimer's disease.
On their website they state that "Many of our 20,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform our work."

When discussing the show Caitlín said “Many individuals and their families and friends have been affected by Alzheimer’s and we hope that this show will not only be interesting and entertaining but will also raise awareness of this condition. Working side by side with the Alzheimer's Society has been very educational and their support of the show has been fantastic..."
In order to raise further awareness and support for the Alzheimer's Society, Kitty and Caitlín are holding a Charity Fundraising Night for the organisation on 4th March at Fly in the Loaf, Hardman Street.
Come along and enjoy an evening of music, juggling and poetry performed by talented students, and help to raise money for a wonderful cause!
